Thanks Theo, have found his website via google.

In case anyone gets the wrong idea I was not trying to avoid paying the appropriate dues here, I thought this was a traditional tune.

cheers paul

So did I.

I was taught this in a group class by Laurel Swift who later worked with Chris Wood on "On English Ground", and I don't recall it being credited to him - but it was a few years ago, and as we learnt all our stuff by ear..

I'm sure he is credited as the composer on the sleve notes of Wood and Cuttings "Lisa" CD. It's also listed as his here in Wikkipedia.

Its also credited to him on the Old Hat Dance band CD.

My apologies, I expressed myself ambiguusly.

I did not mean to cast doubt on Chris Wood's authorship - I can see from Wikipedia that he is indeed the author - I was expressing suprise that Laurel didn't make it clear that this was not an old traditional tune.

However, as I said, it was some years ago, and she may well have, and it got missed when soemone transcribed the tune.

Thre waltz is a great favourite with a group I play with occasionally (along with Mr Rew's Waltz and Margaret's Waltz, the latter by Pat Shaw) so when I can I will let them know to credit him.

It seems that the Waltzes, more than most tunes I play, seem to be of modern authorship.

I never thought of Ville de Quebec as a Waltz, based on the way its played on "Lisa"

This needs a new topic.
