I wa surprised to find thisD/D# Paolo Soprani Eliteon ebay - I've never seen one with 12 basses before, and am greatly intrigued. Does anybody know whether they made many 12-bass 2-row boxes in modern times (say, since the 1940s!) or must this have been a special order? I'm glad it's not a model from the 1940s, 50s or 60s, as otherwise I'd be agonizing over whether I could afford it, which of course I can't.I think the seller is aiming a bit high, but let's watch - could tempt someone in Europe with the current exchange rate maybe. looks to me as if it and several others  were made that way  a the indent in the bass end is larger than on 8 bass boxes. Also  unfortunately not stradella as on hohner double ray delux so what were the 12 bass?

I once had a similar looking BCC# Paolo Soprani 80 bass with very similar looking stepped keyboard so presumably about same age. It was not at all nice to play  as you had to go 'uphill' when working from the outside in so I swapped it for a hohner gaelic 96 bass which was a very nice box and probably the most playable 3 row after the Shand MOrino.

Actually looking at it again, the whole thing seems bigger - look at the distance from the buttons at either end of the keyboard to the top of the instrument:

It looks like a 2-row in a 3-row casing. Compare with a similar vintage 8-bass model:

definately! there seems to be enough room for an inside row on the top step and enough room for 80 smaller bass buttons on t'other end.   How odd!
