With recent threads elsewhere in these forums about learning BC accordion and playing Scottish music (and with my own place safely booked), it's time for my (almost) annual reminder of the button accordion course on the Isle of Skye. This year it's 23-27 July. Tutor Fergie MacDonald and, although the course description doesn't say, best done on BC or BCC# boxes. For more info on this and other music courses, go tothis pageand follow the links.Bill Y

No takers then, Bill? Like you, I'd heartily recommend this course, having been myself (on C#/D *) the last two years as you know.  A week in Fergie's company is worth the price of admission alone and there's some great box tuition and playing thrown in as well! Then there's the added bonus of coinciding with a week of F?s an Eilein ~ The Skye Festival http://www.feisaneilein.com/.  With concerts and other F?s events, plus great possibilties for mixed sessions in the evenings with lots of musicians around (including those on Norman Chalmers Bandwork and Addie Harper's Piano Accordion courses), there's another great week in store, but don't forget the midge-repellant! Er, could that be the problem? They are fierce but not that fierce! Come on!

* Edited to add that C#/D, or any system capable of predominatly Scottish/West Highland tunes, will be accommodated although B/C(/C#) players will be most at home.

Never realised it took place, but then until a few months and a few threads ago, my potential interest in B/C was very low.
Too late to negotiate into this year's social diary, but definitely interesting for perhaps next year.
I assume its a fixture in their summer course schedule, but does the date vary? Is it normally the last week in July?

Must start looking out for a suitable box

Recent dates: 2-6 Aug 2004; 1-5 Aug 2005; 31 Jul-4 Aug 2006; 23-27 Jul 2007. Last year and this it has been timed to coincide with the second week of F?s an Eilein, the Isle of Skye Festival, which is based at Sabhal M? Ostaig.

As for a suitable box . . . when I return from holiday at the end of May, I will be putting up for sale 3 accordions (to make way for my new Roland FR-3sb electronic 5-row chromatic accordion), including an excellent Hohner Double Ray DeLuxe B/C (3 voice musette, 12 bass). Watch this space, or rather the "For Sale" section.

the double ray delux that Bill will be selling  is a particularly useful BC box as it has (am I correct Bill!) 12 stradella bass which sill provide reasonable harmony  & rhythm in keys of CGDA & enough to get by with in F making it much more versatile than the normal 8 melodeon bass.  Don't be afraid of stradella bass 12 are very easy to get  learn quickly.

George,

Yes, it's the 12 stradella bass - bass note and major chord in F-C-G-D-A-E. Full details and pics in a few weeks.

I've got another one of these 12 bass Double Ray Deluxes listed in the "For Sale" section - in case anyone's interested, see here...

They're a cracking little box already, but readily amenable to being tweaked and fettled further into a far more responsive and smoother sounding machine.

Pity is, I'm not using mine nearly enough, and want to upgrade my C#/D, so its got to go...

Sorry for the late reply - just back from holiday. Lost the faith? No, the 3-row Paolo Soprani is definitely not one of those lined up to go. Electronic? I've always regarded myself as a hi-tech kind of guy (all my music on my iPod) and the possibilities of the Roland, even the lowest spec one that I've got, really appeal to me. It's just a different instrument. Now, trying a 5-row chromatic - maybe that's verging on the heretical . . .
