Just a reminder that whitby folk week will be taking place once more on 18 - 24 Aug 2007. Melodeon playing artists include John Kirkpatrick, Tony Hall and John Spiers. Loads for box players including led & spontaneous sessions , workshops & concerts. This year I will be doing 4 workshops mon - thurs " DG melodeon, a crash course for beginers" which are suitable for those who have just bought a box or have left it in the wardrobe for past year! and an intermediate level workshop on the friday. I will also be doing a couple of led sessions in the middle earth, probably tues & thurs 1 to 3pm "well known tunes at a steady pace giving everyone the chance to join in" which are exactly as it says on the label so to speak! Also I understand that Theo Gibb will have his usual stall offering advice, sales & instant minor repairs.Plenty of stuff for those with more ecumenical box playing leanings including concertina and piano accordion.Full info on artists, camping, season tickets etc atwww.whitbyfolk.co.uk A great place & a geat festival!george

Last year of course we had a mel.netters meet for a pint one teatime. I can't organise it this year as I won't be there (Rivington are at Towersey the following week instead). However, if anyone else wants to organise it....

If anybody who will be at Whitby would like more info on BCC# system I will be happy to  meet up with them and do an unsheduled impromtu sort of workshop somewhere . Either contact me by pm or email before whitby week or  after one of my Dg workshops or musicians sessions.

Same goes for any melnetters who just want a natter about boxes in general

George et al

I'll have a stall in the trade fair again this year - Whitby Pavillion lower floor, same pitch as last year. You are welcome to use that as a meeting place is that's any help. Even maybe run run your B/C/C# session there if it is a smallish number of people.

Thanks Theo - I have a strong feeling in my water that it's unlikely to be a largish number of people. Could even be less than one apart from myself!

I have just looked through my diary and booked the week off.

AS it is my local festival my attendance has been shockingly bad over the last few years.

If anybody is thinking of going to Whitby  & not buying season ticket  which entitles you to use festival campsite (at extra cost) there are very limited 'private' camp/caravan sites in area that take tents - caravans stand a better chance- so it is aadvisable to sort your site out now. Moor & Coast run a temporary campsite at Whitby  Community College ( walking distance of all events)bookable in advance anad probably now nearly fully booked - details on whitby folk weel website www.whitbyfolk.co.uk

Loads of stuff all week of interest to box players and as I mentioned earlier if anybody would like to know more about the BCC# system I would be happy to oblige with a sort of informal workshop somewhere sometime. Either contact me by pm before festival or accost me after one of my programmed events at whitby.

Hi George

We can only make Whitby on the Tuesday this year, so I was wondering if you have confirmed the day of your wonderful slow session in Middle Earth yet - hoping it is Tuesday!!!

Hi Lin

a few changes this year due to 'new management'  so it looks as if I am doing 2 sessions  in Middle Earth, Sunday and Wednesday, both from 5 to7pm.  This time worked well at Sidmouth a few years ago  and  one session I did there had over 150 people at it.  Perhaps its because at that time people can fit it in as an extra & still  have time to go on to a concert or dance.  Will also be doing  workshops at Stakesby Arms monday to friday 10 to 11.20 am

Sorry you won't be able to make it - maybe next year? george

I'll be there and I've got accommodation just up the road from Middle Earth so that will have to be my local for the week - shame.

To be recognised by Saltarelle Pastourelle III and Andrew Norman Concertina. Maybe the double bass will really pick me out but I can't always squeeze it into sessions.

have now seen the printed programme & can confirm that I will be doing sessions in middle earth sunday & wednesday 5 - 7pm ( "Well known tunes at a steady pace giving everybody a chance to join in) . Beginners Dg workshops stakesby arms (near main campsite) mon, tu , wed, thurs, 10 to 11.20am (this is a crash course for beginners  and is progressive - but those who can only come  on  some days will still find it useful) Fri stakesby arms 10 -11.20 intermediate  level Dg   "experimenting with bellows control and dynamics using well known tunes".

As previously mentioned I am willing to put on a sort of impromtu discussion/workshop or whatever on BCC# system  anybody interested contact me by pm, email or  after one of the above events
