Heya,I could do with a bit of advice with regards fitting a new bass strap onto my Delicia Popular - I didnt like the one it came with, and didnt find it very comfortable, so have purchased one of the deluxe ones that are on ebay at the moment, along with a thumb strap for the treble side. However the new bass strap is wider than the original delicia one, the length is fine however. I was wondering how I would go about fitting it, whether I should try and make the strap narrower, or, cut an extra few mm out of the body of the melodeon on the bass end to accomomodate the new strap.Although my obvious thoughts are to get a new strap which fits, the modifiying of the melodeon wouldnt be too difficult for me, its a simple matter of cutting part of the bodywork back by a few mm.What I was wondering is if anyone else has done this before, and if so would they reccomend it?Chris

Hi Chris,

yes it's me again. I can recommend my own solution. I chopped off the old one 7/8 length, attached a new one to the other end, so that they overlap nearly full length. Get some high strength self adhesive velcro, and stick it on full lengh, so you can adjust the tension just how you like it by laying one on the other.  You might have to use a couple of stiches on the ends of the velcro where you pull them apart, just to reinforce the adhesive, but it works a treat. Never get loose, and once you set it how you like it, it holds that tension perfectly. ( I used a couple of chromed leather-studs, but stitches would do just as well ).

Hope this makes sense, it works well.

Kev.
