Hi everybody,I have just joined, having been a guest and avid reader for a while, I thought it polite to say hello. I've been playing melodeon for about thirty years, mostly for Thelwall Morris Men. I still have my starting instrument, a Hohner Erica, which still plays very well. I've owned a Saltarelle Connemara II and currently have a SalterellePastourelle IIIand a Dino Baffetti Black Pearl. The Pearl is great for the Morris (loud for outdoor use) whilst I like the Pastourelle for playing at folk clubs and festivals, though I am still getting used to the stepped keyboard.I recently ordered a Streb 2.5 row. Anybody out there got any Streb experience; I'd be interested to hear any comments, good or otherwise.CheersDerek

Hi there and welcome! You'll find quite a few discussions on the Streb in this forum - worth doing a search or two to have a look for them. You'll find quite a few Streb fans around here, myself included. They're a fantastic creation, don't know where I'd be without mine!

Cheers,

Clive

Oh, by the way, you can find a few samples of my (2 year old) Streb in action here at http://www.clivew.com/interests.php . I've matured now, and don't use the church organ effect as much any more, honest.

Cheers,

Clive

Clive,
I bought a copy of your 'Vivant' CD earlier this year, very impressive. Hoping to expand my repertoire by learning a few of the tunes - hope you don't mind.

Very kind of you to say so! I'm always happy when someone learns some of my tunes off me - I did of course, nick them off someone else so it's only fair, so please go ahead and enjoy!

Cheers,

Clive

Hi Im also intersted in the Streb! I currently have a Salterelle Conimmara 11 in DG.  Im also contemplating buying the STREB on the basis that its possible to play in any key by just well lets say pressing a switch or button! If this is the case then I dont have to consider the C#D box that Ive been musing over for some time. So like you Im wondering if anyone out there has some practical hands on experience of this electronic wonder?

I'm not trying to put you off the Streb, but just bear in mind what gives the diatonic accordion/melodeon its charm, and gives music played on it a special quality. It is the fact that it is limited, and therefore makes you more creative in order to find interesting ways to overcome its limitations!

Theo,
I take your point, and agree with it. I wouldn't dream of being without a real bellows operated reed stuffed melodeon. I'm too fond of my Saltarelle and Dino Baffetti to get rid. But I am looking forward to the versatility aspect of the Streb for joining in playing in sessions etc more readily.

Cheers
Derek
